Our bassett hound, Izzy, has a birthday

Our dog Izzy is the skinniest bassett hound you'll ever see. Most bassetts reach 50-60 lbs. But our dog Izzy remains at a steady 30 lbs. We feed her table scraps all the time too. We figure it's because she spends all afternoon chasing birds in the backyard.

Izzy turns 2 tomorrow and my kids haven't let me forget it. They want to buy gifts for her and have a party! I've convinced them that Izzy doesn't know what birthdays are and that it's okay not to make a big fuss. I know--big party pooper. But I honestly have more important things to do than plan a party for a dog. With that being said, Izzy really is great and has taught us a few valuable lessons: 1-Love and respect for God's creations; 2-It's "okay" to have a little dog hair on the sofa; 3-When ya gotta go, ya gotta go; and 4-Keep all toys off the floor or they'll end up outside on the grass packaged neatly in dog poop.

Are you from New Zealand? (seeing that you used the Maori word "whanau") I just stopped by thinking you were a family I know, Maybe not? Lovely photos.

Hi, thanks for dropping by my blog. You and your children are Kiwis (New Zealanders) too, although you have never been here. Your Mum comes from the indigenous people of New Zealand, so that links you to NZ through your whakapapa (genealogy). Gisborne is an awesome beach city, well known as a surfing spot. I have good friends and a sister who live there as well, small world!!

Hi guys

Saw your post on Tani's blog. I am a Pom but spent 3 years in Gisborne when I first moved to New Zealand. Gisborne is paradise on earth - one of my all time favorite places. If you ever get chance to get to NZ, you must visit your family at Gisborne. It will give you a sense of where your family comes from.
